Movement Snacks: From here to eternity
|
Hey Reader, I teach live classes Monday through Thursday in my online movement studio. Usually, only a few people show up. The energy is different from teaching big classes at studios. It's more personal, more connected, more intimate. And I love that. Yes, the big energy of teaching to a room full of people is fun. And sometimes I miss it. But I really love getting to know people and working with them more directly, while still teaching a group practice. Something that is simply impossible when you teach in large groups. Here's what I mean: This morning, only 1 student showed up for the 15-minute flow class I teach every Tuesday. We do the same flow every week because I teach the dynamic 15-minute flow I created (and pre-recorded for the archives) for the month on Tuesdays. That way, for those who attend live, they get the opportunity to get more familiar with sequence so it feels a little smoother each week. The pose of the month is crow pose, so at the end of the Tuesday class, we do crow pose 3 times. This student has shown up every Tuesday (and also usually Monday and Wednesday) this month, so she's been working on her crow pose each week. What started out as a little wobbly and unstable has become more confident and strong in 3 weeks of working on it. Each week, I've been able to give her a few small tips on her crow pose. And each week, she's implemented those tips. This week, on crow pose number 3 at the very end of the practice, she held crow pose for what felt like an actual eternity. When she finally put her feet back down, I screamed out loud. I might have been more excited than she was, but it's also really cool to be able to watch that sort of progress, closely and week after week. After she landed she said, "that was hard." I agreed. Holding crow pose is hard. What has changed for me (and I suspect her, too) is that trying it feels less hard. Holding it for any length of time still feels like an eternity. She told me I should title a class about crow pose, "From Here to Eternity." I told her that instead, I was going to share her story in my newsletter because it's honestly so inspiring. That leads me to my movement snack... If you want to work on crow pose, I have a few resources. First a quick video with 5 strength exercises to work on so you feel more confident in crow pose. (I shared it both on Instagram and YouTube). I also created a longer video for my YouTube, showcasing the top 3 mistakes people tend to make in crow pose and what to do instead. It's less than 5 minutes long, so a quickie! Watch it here: And although crow month is almost over, I'd love for you to join me in MOVE. This is the best place to take classes with me in which you can get individualized attention in a way you simply can't in large, in-person classes. There are 3 different tiers in MOVE to better meet your needs. MOVE15 is for those who have a little less time for movement and do well with a self-guided movement practice. MOVE is for those who like to attend live classes and do well with more guidance. MOVE Plus is for those who want more specialized support and do well with built in accountability. I'd love to make you a special offer: If you join my online studio at the MOVE15 or MOVE tier, I will create a personalized crow pose program for you. This is usually only available to those in MOVE plus, but if your goal is a calmer, more confident and strong crow pose, I'd love to help with that. The program will last through November, so roughly 6 weeks of movement practices, based on your needs and goals and with whatever level of accountability you'd like. If you have any questions about MOVE or what a personalized program would like like or how we'd create accountability, please respond to this email! Thanks for being a part of my community this year. I am so grateful for you. Warmly, Naomi Want to stay in touch during the week? Here are a 2 easy ways: Follow me on YouTube.
