Movement Snacks: Need a Movement Break? I've got you.
|
Hey Reader, What I am about to say is controversial in some parts of the fitness/movement world, but I'm going to say it anyway because it's at the core of my belief system as a movement professional. I believe that movement is most useful when it is accessible. What I mean by this is that what matters most is maintaining a movement practice throughout every stage of your life. It doesn't matter what that movement is, really -- this is the controversial part, by the way. How you choose to move has more to do with your personal goals and how you want the final 10-20 years of your life to be. But in terms of basic health and ease of movement as you age, the goal is just to keep moving. We tend to get too bogged down in the details -- how many minutes per week of what type of exercise can feel overwhelming. It doesn't need to be that way. A little bit of movement goes a long way. That leads me to my movement snack... To help with those times when you want to move your body, maybe just to stretch or adjust after sitting for awhile, I created a quick video with 5 different exercises that you can do in around a minute each. Alternatively, you can follow along with the video and it's a 5 minute movement practice. Either way, it's a simple tool to help you get moving when you need a little bit of movement. Watch it here: If you want more mini-movement practices like this to help establish a daily movement practice, I can help with that. I created my free Power of One challenge as a way to make daily movement simpler and more sustainable. If you sign up for Power of One, you'll receive an email everyday with a single exercise, yoga pose, or action to do. It will take between 30 seconds and 2 minutes to do. And then you're done (unless you choose to do more). We kick things off on September 1st (that's tomorrow!!!). It's completely free to sign up and participate in the Power of One. Click here and you'll be set. If you know anyone who might like this challenge or if you want to do this with a buddy (accountability can be a huge benefit when starting a new habit), you can send them this link to sign up: Thanks for being a part of my community this year. I am so grateful for you. Warmly, Naomi Want to stay in touch during the week?
