Who is Strength in Midlife for?

Hey Reader,

I've been teaching yoga and movement for 21 years. In that time, my work in the world has evolved with me.

When I was a new yoga teacher, my goal was to teach fun, thoughtful yoga classes that challenged people to do things they didn't think they could do (safely, of course).

When I became a mom, my goal was to make movement more accessible for busy moms without making it feel like one more thing on their to-do list.

And then, when I realized I needed to get stronger as I get older, my goal shifted again.

Now my focus is twofold: My goal is to make movement more accessible and enjoyable so that it's easier to move your body everyday. And my goal is to show women over 40 that getting stronger as we get older is not only possible, but a powerful choice that can vastly improve quality of life.

That's why I built my new app, Strength in Midlife, by the way.

And while I do have other means of sharing these 2 goals -- my online studio, my YouTube channel, and various programs -- the app can potentially reach a broader group of folks simply because it all lives inside a program in your phone.

When I created the framework of the app and the trajectory of how folks would move through the videos in the app, I did build Strength in Midlife with certain folks in mind.

Before I get to those folks, let me tell you who Strength in Midlife is NOT FOR:
Strength in Midlife is not for you if you are already lifting weights regularly or working with barbells. It's not for you if you have a consistent movement practice that you actively enjoy. It's also not for you if you are a fan of diet culture and want to get smaller as you get older. And if you really hate using your phone for anything more than calling or texting people or taking photos, Strength in Midlife is not for you.

If you see yourself in any of that, you can just skip to the bottom!

However, if you don't see yourself in the description above, Strength in Midlife might be for you, so read on!

Strength in Midlife is for you if:

You are newer to strength training or you're returning to strength training after a break.
I go through the basics of certain, foundational lifts (deadlifts, squats, rows, and overhead presses) in the first phase of the app so that you get really comfortable with those actions before moving on to more complicated exercises.

You like the idea of moving your body every day (or nearly everyday).
To be clear, you're not doing strength training everyday. You can choose how many days a week you move your body and how many of those days you do strength training. The other days are yoga, mobility, and core work.

You struggle to be consistent with movement and thrive when you have a program to follow.
Your personalized program is laid out for you every single day, based on your preferences and needs. And because it all lives in your phone, you can take it with you anywhere you have internet access.

You prefer shorter movement practices.
Maybe you're busy caring for kids or elderly parents or both. Maybe you're busy with a career that doesn't leave a lot of time for anything else. Maybe you like the idea of what movement can give you, health-wise, but don't really love moving your body. Maybe you haven't had a movement practice in a long time and need to ease yourself in.
Whatever the reason, the practices in Strength in Midlife are nearly all between 10 and 20 minutes long (there are a few 5 minute and 20-25 minute practices, but they are the outliers).

You want to build strength, not lose weight.
Many fitness apps include nutrition advice, as well as require you to record your weight and other body metrics. I don't. My goal isn't to make you smaller. It's to make you physically stronger. Getting physically stronger might change the shape of your body, but it likely won't result in weight loss.

You are tired of the narrative about aging that suggests weakness and frailty is a given.
Yes, we all lose bone density and muscle mass as we get older. But you can slow that process AND actually build both muscle and bone at every stage of life. The goal of this app is to make that more accessible and affordable.

You want to be encouraged, not shamed.
My intention is always to meet you where you are. I offer a wide range of options in the strength exercises and the yoga practices. I don't prescribe specific weights to work with -- if anything I encourage you to go heavier than you think you might need (depending on the exercise). Ultimately, my intention is to give you the opportunity to grow at your own pace.

So if any of these sound like you, go check out my app, Strength in Midlife -- A Daily Movement App for Aging Well. There's a huge sale happening to celebrate the launch of my app and several others within the Studio platform. You can get 20% off an annual or quarterly subscription through May 8th.

If this app isn't for you, but know someone who could benefit from it, please consider sharing this with them. Or share about it on social media or on a neighborhood listserv. It means a lot to me, as a very small, 1 woman business, trying to do good work in the fitness and health world, when you share what I do over someone who has a YouTube channel with millions of subscribers and dozens of lucrative product deals.

I am monumentally proud of what I have created. My hope is that it will make daily movement more accessible, strength more attainable, and aging feel more powerful.

Please head on over to Strength in Midlife and learn a little more about my app. Even if it's not for you, it might benefit someone you know.

Let's get stronger, together!

Naomi

REMINDER: I'll be sharing about my app for the next 5 days while there's a big sale going on to launch my app, as well as many others. f you don't want to receive a bunch of extra emails, you can click here and I promise you'll only receive my Sunday/Monday Movement Snack in the next 2 weeks.
