Movement Snacks: How do you even start strength training?


Hey Reader,

When I was brand new to strength training, I had no idea what I was doing.I was around a year postpartum with my first child.Yoga wasn't cutting it in my recovery after giving birth and I wanted to feel strong again, so I started taking HIIT classes online.

I loved the HIIT classes and I'm forever grateful to that first teacher (Sarah Kusch) because she really did know her stuff and did a really good job giving basic tips for making smart choices in HIIT style classes.

Still, I frequently got injured because I didn't really understand what weights I should be using or how I should progress. And being very type-A, I have a tendency to push myself harder than is sometimes a good idea.

Since I was reliant on the classes provided. I didn't know how to work out on my own. Flash forward 11 years and I've learned a lot.

While I am currently working with a coach (shout out to the phenomenal Alison Heilig of Miles to go Athletics), I have integrated strength training into my own classes, programs, and online studio because as I get older, getting stronger is my priority.

Still, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by strength training. How do you even know where to start or if you've already started, how do you make sure you're making good choices along the way?

Movement Snack this week:

There are a few things I wish I'd known when I started: what weights to start with, how many reps and sets you're aiming for, how to progressively load, and how many days per week you should be lifting.

Those are the things I am sharing with you in my upcoming workshop called Strength Training Basics.

This is a great workshop for you if you're newer to strength training or if you feel uncomfortable working out at a gym, but don't know what you need at home.

This is also great for folks who have used videos or online classes for awhile but want to figure out how to do a little more on your own.

I've priced this workshop crazy low -- almost ridiculously low. Definitely below value for my knowledge and time. And maybe that's a mistake.

But I want to make this workshop accessible, particularly because sometimes starting a strength training practice can feel inaccessible.
